how do I prevent wooden gate posts expanding and preventing shutting?

The gate is old. The 4 ins by 4 ins posts are new and treated. But within a short time the gate will not fully close.

Without seeing how it is built, it is difficult to tell. A properly installed gate with the right materials should last many years without any issues. If the posts are pressure treated and the gate is old, I would suspect either the wood in the gate is not holding the screws or the joints in the gate are separating. I would check to ensure the posts are level and have not shifted. If they have, I would look at a better way of securing them in the ground. It might be time to take the gate off and make a new one out of pressure treated lumber.
