Driveway Gate Post
How to properly install a Gate post?
I am going to be installing two 8′ gates across my back driveway. The lengths will give me plenty of room to maneuver my RV. The gates weigh approx. 100lbs a piece.
The posts will be two matching telephone poles cut to the proper length. (You can’t get anything more stout) I also have approx 4 bags of concrete for each hole. The ground where I will be installing gets really soft and has a very high water table. The water begins to pool only 18inches from the surface when saturated.
Is this enough concrete? How far down should my posts go? Should the post be centered in the concrete or off to one of the sides? Should I brace the posts and if so, what would be the right way to do it?
yes, 4 ft, yes centered, yes,a header connecting the two posts would be best.
